 Artist Statement – Perspectives Exhibit – Ravi Gill

In this collection I have chosen to look at cityscapes and the unique perspective with which we all observe them. The pieces are concentrated extractions of specific aspects of ‘the cityscape’, for instance telephone wires, buildings and windows. A perspective to me as an artist is simply; ones point of view. Bearing this in mind, I hope to engage the audience within ‘the cityscape’ and have them negotiate their own perspectives. As an artist I find great beauty in being able to evoke the visceral and found myself truly fascinated in mutual, differing and alternate perspectives; of the same space, area and materials namely ‘the cityscape’ which is depicted in these works. The mediums used are varied such as photography, canvas, wood panel, watercolor, oil etc; intentionally to once again encourage the viewer to question and form a perspective. A commonality within all these works is the clear significance of Architecture and the photographic image.

Artist Bio – Ravi Gill

 Upon completing my Fine Arts and 2D Design Certificate at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 2005, what began as a hobby grew into a passion.  The art that I enjoy creating is primarily abstract and surreal with my mediums of choice being acrylic, oil, charcoal, and pastels applied onto canvas or paper.  I enjoy using various materials and styles merged onto one surface to create contrast and make a visual statement. The fusion of materials is visible in our daily lives and applying this concept to create art is a wonderful experience.
